Cantonian High School is an Eco School. We adhere to the values as laid out in our Eduaction for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) policy. Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship is a term that has many and varying definitions. At Cantonian High School, we have adopted our own simple mission statement for ESDGC in conjunction with our Eco Club that we believe can be equally understood by children and adults alike:
“To promote environmental awareness and behave in a way that respects and enhances the environment for future generations.
“Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is about enabling pupils to develop the knowledge, values and skills to participate in decisions about the way we do things individually and collectively, both locally and globally, that will improve the quality of life now without damaging the planet for the future.
“Education for Global Citizenship (GC) enables people to understand the global forces that shape their lives and to acquire the knowledge, skills and values that will equip them to participate in decision-making, both locally and globally, which promotes a more equitable and sustainable world.”

ESDGC is taught through all subject areas including Personal and Social Education (PSE). Pupils have the opportunity to learn more about ESDGC through extra-curricular opportunities such as joining our Eco Club or taking part in one of our projects with our international partnerships.
The school holds the silver award as an Eco School and has international links with schools in China, Zambia, France, Hungary, Romania and Japan.
