Introduction to the Subject Area

Students studying Social SciencesSocial Studies consists of RE, Psychology and Law.

Extra-curricular

Social Studies offers AS RE as an additional subject during lunch times and after school.

We also offer extra revision sessions during lunch times and after school.

Subject Area Overview of KS3

Religious Education (RE) is delivered in line with the county agreed syllabus. Some of the areas covered are prejudice and discrimination, the environment, faith leaders, festivals, places of worship, and inspirational people such as Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and Ghandi.

Subject Area Overview of KS4

In RE, all pupils follow the WJEC short course and some follow full course. Some of the topics covered are Religion and Medicine – abortion, euthanasia, Religion and Authority – capital punishment, Relationships, Our World and Is It Fair.

In Psychology, all pupils follow the AQA short/full GCSE course.  We look at memory and how that impacts on everyday life, learning and Pavlov's dogs, conformity and obedience. This course is assessed via 100% examination.

In Law, all pupils follow the AQA full course GCSE. We look at murder, manslaughter, marriage and civil partnerships. This course is assessed via 100% examination.

Subject Area Overview of KS5

AS RE is offered as an extra-curricular subject.

A Level Law,  covering murder, manslaughter, European law, etc. This course is assessed via 100% examination.

A Level Psychology, looking at  stress and its effects on the body, mental illness - a choice of schizophrenia, depression or OCD, etc. this course is assessed via 100% examination.
