Human papillomavirus (HPV)

The HPV vaccine protects girls and young women against the most common cause of cervical cancers.

All Year 8 girls are routinely offered the vaccine, with the full course of three doses given during the school year. The girls have a special assembly a few weeks before the vaccination programme commences when the process is explained to them. They are given letters, leaflets and consent forms to take home. The consent forms must be signed by the parents / carers and returned to the school.

The school nurse checks all the forms prior to the vaccinations being given, and will chase any that are outstanding.

If you have any questions about the vaccination programme, please contact the Head of Lower School, Mr G H Davies, on 029 2041 5250.

Further information is also available from the Department of Health Immunisation website.
