Year 6 into Year 7 Admissions
If you want the place offered to you for your child’s Year 7 place in September you must notify the Council by the acceptance deadline. If you do not accept by this date your place will be withdrawn and you will need to reapply. Further advice is available at your local Hub.
Cantonian High School can admit 181 pupils into each year group. Pupils mainly come from the Fairwater, Pentrebane, Ely and Canton areas of Cardiff. The main partner primary schools tend to be Fairwater, Pentrebane and Peter Lea, although we regularly admit pupils from Llandaff City Church in Wales, Herbert Thompson, Lansdowne Road, Millbank, Radnor Road and Severn Road Primary schools, as well as several others.
We have established close links with our partner primary schools and we take great care to ensure that the transition to Cantonian is an enjoyable one for our pupils. During the summer term of Year 6, pupils and their parents are invited to the school to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings and to meet the staff.
Our Transition Plan formal arrangements are held up as a model of good practice and more than meet the requirements placed upon us. Pupils are carefully assessed by both primary and Cantonian staff to ensure that each child is placed in an appropriate grouping, and of course we make sure that children are placed with at least one of their special friends whenever possible.
We monitor each child very carefully especially in the first term after they have arrived because we want to make sure that they have settled into school and that they have been placed in a suitable tutor group. Any alterations will always be made in full consultation with parents.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the Head of Key Stage 3, Mr G H Davies, on 029 2041 5250 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Further information is also available from the Council's admissions website.
In Year Admissions
A significant number of pupils choose to come to Cantonian from other schools at various points in their school career. Parents can ask us to admit their child to Cantonian at any stage of their Child's education.
To apply to Cantonian, parents will need to complete an In Year Admissions Application Form, available from the Council, and return it to:
Pupil Admissions, Room 311, Education Service, County Hall, Cardiff, CF10 4UW.
You can find out more about the In Year Admissions process at your local Advice Hub or by visiting the Council's admissions website.
Sixth Form Admissions
Many pupils continue their education at Cantonian High School in our Sixth Form, and we also welcome admissions from new students. We offer a wide range of vocational and academic courses in partnership with other providers and pupils receive substantial support throughout from the Head of Sixth Form, Subject Area Leaders, Classroom Teachers, Form Tutors and Pastoral staff, as well as outside agencies who visit the school to offer advice and support with, for example, UCAS applications.
If you have any questions regarding admission to the Sixth Form, please contact the Head of Sixth Form, Mrs J Croydon, on 029 2041 5250 or email@example.com
