From September there will be an amendment to your child’s timetable with lessons changing from one hour to 50 minutes in length. This change means that lessons will be slightly shorter in length with each day consisting of 6 x 50-minute lessons instead of 5 x one-hour lessons. The reason for the change is to further support the improvements in learning and teaching; teaching will be focused and sharper with the emphasis being on challenge within lessons. This will also provide an opportunity for pupils to be taught more subjects within the school day which will benefit them at KS3 and support the preparation for their GCSE exams in KS4 and 5. The outline of the new day is below but this will not impact on the start and finish time of the school day.
During the final few weeks of the summer term, pupils will be trialling 50-minute lessons to help them prepare for the change ready for September.
